The BackStoppers Events
Each year the organization benefits from many and varied
events held throughout the community. We are deeply grateful
for the funds that these affairs generate.
General Meetings
The BackStoppers is not a social organization. We come
together specifically to support our mission of assistance
to the families of fallen police officers and firefighters.
We do, however, host one general meeting each year. At
this dinner meeting, we keep our members current on organizational
affairs.
- all members receive invitations to these events
- the dinners are complimentary to members
- guests are welcome but are subject to a guest charge

This year’s Budweiser Guns ‘N Hoses boxing show at Scottrade Center will mark the 25th anniversary of Police Officers and Firefighters stepping into the ring for their favorite charity that has raised more than $3.2 million for The BackStoppers.
“We started off with a group of enthusiastic boxers but we raised a small amount of money in 1987,” said Jerry Clinton who co-founded the event with Mryl Taylor. “With Myrl’s knowledge of amateur boxing, dedicated committee members and ticket sellers, we were able to grow the event each year. We are proud that it has raised a significant amount of money for The BackStoppers as the group assists the families of those public servants who lose their lives in the line of duty.”
The 2011 Budweiser Guns ‘ Hoses will be on Wednesday (Thanksgiving Eve), November 23 at Scottrade Center. Tickets, which will go on sale soon, range from $30 to $10. Additional information is available at the event website, www.stlgunsandhoses.com.
In addition to the estimated 17 bouts, Police Officers, Firefighters and Emergency Medical Personnel who have died in the line of duty since last year’s event will be honored with boxing’s traditional “Ten-Count.”
Other special activities are planned to celebrate the event’s 25th Anniversary.
